Reflection of IDEO Deep Dive Video
The efficiency of designers from many fields of study in a work environment like we see at IDEO is possible due to how the company is designed for positive productivity. Positive emotion among employees is top priority and the results show. For example a five day deadline was given to the designers to redesign a shopping cart. The process began instantly when designers scattered into brainstorming with word maps and illustrations. I was amazed to see the amount of communication, teamwork, and constructive critiques that the designers engaged in. Communication plays a big role in idea development as the employees at IDEO are encouraged to promote crazy thinking. This outside of the box strategy allows for more innovative ideas to be created for concept design.
For employees who have studied in completely different fields communication is a key aspect for efficiency and production purposes. I feel as a Graphic Design Major it would be ideal to work at a company with similar qualities, and personally it would be my preference to be up and moving rather than sitting in a cubical. The IDEO video renews my confidence in the possible job opportunities that await in my future. Below you will see the process in which IDEO went through to word map and illustrate their ideas and come to a great conclusion, a “better” Shopping Cart design.
