Reflection of Understanding Comics

In this reading I learned quite a bit about comics and not only what messages they convey, but how the human mind picks up on emotional signals in line.  Symbols and tools for conveying ideas through comics have been developing for centuries.  With such a simplistic medium it is amazing to learn about all the complex things comics can portray even with a small stroke of a line.   In a small window an artist can create complex stories using key symbols to give the reader an idea of whats going on without showing everything thats going on in a scene.
The comic tells us that “the idea that a picture can evoke an emotional or sensual response in the viewer is vital to the art of comics.”  This is the key to many ways of communicating ideas and portraying something visual, using as few words as possible. Single panels resemble moments in time and the movement between panels allows closure to be portrayed.  It raises the question “How can a single image represent the senses and emotions and how does this idea vapply to comics?”.  We can take from comics the understanding that communication through images can be very most effective.
